Homework

• Reading
  The letters we learned this week were Jj and Xx. We practiced writing Jj and Xx, reading lots of Jj and Xx words, and finding Jj and Xx pictures. Our Magic Words of week were him, of and where. We have finished introducing our Magic Words. Now we will use all those to make us better readers and writers! Keep on practicing! Our next letters will be Yy and Zz.



• Writing
  Practice writing your first and last name using upper and lower case letters. Please encourage your child to form upper and lower case letters correctly. For example, upper case letters fill up the whole writing space from 'sky' to 'ground'. We are also practicing stretching out our words and listening for the sounds we hear in a word. Have your child stretch out words on their own and write whatever letters they hear. This will help them in their writing! We are also working on expressing our own ideas in writing and then illustrating them accordingly. We were introduced to Writer's Workshop, a time when the children can write independently about whatever they would like.



• Math
  We completed our money unit and have moved on to beginning addition. This week was dedicated to the language of addition and finding fun ways to explore each number 5, 6, 7, and 8. Next week we will explore 9 and 10 and then get into formal addition.



• Social Studies/ Science
  Our theme for the week was insects. We learned lots about insects and read some very interesting and funny books! Our ladybugs hatched and we let them free in the flowers across from our room.



• Personal Information
  Please have your child work on learning their birth date, telephone number and address (street, city, state).

Announcements

• Our trip to State Theater was so much fun! We got to sit in the upper mezzanine, what wonderful seats. Junie B. and all her friends put on a wonderful performance.


• There will be an early dismissal on Friday, May 28th. School will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 31st. School will be closed on Tuesday, June 1st for a teacher in-service day.


• Homework is normally given Monday - Thursday. Please check your child's folder for homework activities and important information that needs to be returned to school.


• Food for the Sound Muncher is due on Friday.


• Please remember to return your child's Magic Reading Word bag to school every Friday, so that I may add our new word for the following week.


• Please be sure to pack two snacks with your child each day, one for the morning and one for the afternoon.
